Loretta taught me a lot about life and just as much about creative pursuits like sewing, embroidery, re-purposing vintage finds and so much more. The root of my lifelong passion to create started with everything Loretta taught me.Colleen C.http://www.blogger.com/profile/01276886413364911666noreply@blogger.comBlogger61125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6970220604384463955.post-49899119510933924812020-09-20T14:54:00.000-07:002020-09-20T14:54:25.628-07:00Some More Journal Progress<p> The journal is coming along, but there is still a lot to be done. Slow going but fun. The first signature is almost done. There will be two signatures in this journal. One of the journal pages photographed is made with the most beautiful wallpaper. I purchased several rolls of this paper on ebay - it is made in England and is just stunning. I will be using more of it in this journal. Sorry for the shadows on the photos - it is a really rainy day and the lighting is not the best.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nhwL9pT7YbE/X2fOpX4s9NI/AAAAAAAACdo/cVSCANa7GnULK1TGONRFGrWuwoVHLkwfwCLcBGAsYHQ/s493/Journal%2BTags.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="493" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nhwL9pT7YbE/X2fOpX4s9NI/AAAAAAAACdo/cVSCANa7GnULK1TGONRFGrWuwoVHLkwfwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Journal%2BTags.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PlR-j1GKH0Y/X2fOdwzVOEI/AAAAAAAACdc/6i3-RtYjF4gGbPpikyF_fg4vEWQLPMo_gCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/Journal%2BPage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PlR-j1GKH0Y/X2fOdwzVOEI/AAAAAAAACdc/6i3-RtYjF4gGbPpikyF_fg4vEWQLPMo_gCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/Journal%2BPage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9pYbNbstxtg/X2fOijy-CKI/AAAAAAAACdk/e5l3lfbGhr4sDmPUoPjyiciVfRrJ6MDKwCLcBGAsYHQ/image.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9pYbNbstxtg/X2fOijy-CKI/AAAAAAAACdk/e5l3lfbGhr4sDmPUoPjyiciVfRrJ6MDKwCLcBGAsYHQ/image.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /></div><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6yWpzNVoTSU/X2fOPF-8TfI/AAAAAAAACdY/sQ5qTCK_f9QEFgcF2Jipx675A3dCegBWwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/Unfinished%2BJournal%2BPage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6yWpzNVoTSU/X2fOPF-8TfI/AAAAAAAACdY/sQ5qTCK_f9QEFgcF2Jipx675A3dCegBWwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Unfinished%2BJournal%2BPage.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /><br /><br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2etS4En1UKI/X2fOumSfg5I/AAAAAAAACdw/waQuYMiUOuABiZPu10gGfZY2zI6rr7CtACLcBGAsYHQ/s500/Tag%2Band%2BPocket%2B2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="428" data-original-width="500" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2etS4En1UKI/X2fOumSfg5I/AAAAAAAACdw/waQuYMiUOuABiZPu10gGfZY2zI6rr7CtACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Tag%2Band%2BPocket%2B2.jpg" width="320" /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gedV0ujZkcM/X2fOztENsKI/AAAAAAAACd4/1xAKMAePMMM-IOJ9r8PM1Qbo6yv63qfwACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/Pocket%2Band%2BTag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gedV0ujZkcM/X2fOztENsKI/AAAAAAAACd4/1xAKMAePMMM-IOJ9r8PM1Qbo6yv63qfwACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/Pocket%2Band%2BTag.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-itCFSDKEk8Q/X2fO_B-mFJI/AAAAAAAACeE/KuiG88jLEo0W0bJP7XqWSX2wWeOfRmuvQCLcBGAsYHQ/image.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-itCFSDKEk8Q/X2fO_B-mFJI/AAAAAAAACeE/KuiG88jLEo0W0bJP7XqWSX2wWeOfRmuvQCLcBGAsYHQ/image.png" width="320" /></a></div><br /></div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X9aGH4jr1mM/X2fPCgYfsSI/AAAAAAAACeI/AhZ99D4kh_Ukspd8xITPTtuiX5526X00gCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Journal%2BPocket-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="267" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X9aGH4jr1mM/X2fPCgYfsSI/AAAAAAAACeI/AhZ99D4kh_Ukspd8xITPTtuiX5526X00gCLcBGAsYHQ/s0/Journal%2BPocket-1.jpg" /></a></div><br /><br />Colleen C.http://www.blogger.com/profile/01276886413364911666noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6970220604384463955.post-22421748969066061262020-08-23T15:58:00.011-07:002020-08-23T16:00:51.612-07:00A Little Progress<p><b>Working on the Junk Journal</b></p><p>I have been working on my junk journal this weekend and created a few more pages and some pockets. I stenciled several of the pages using Vintage Photo and Weathered Wood Distress Inks and collaged another page. I sewed on one of the pockets - I need a lot more practice to be able to sew straight. The journal page with the Eiffel Tower image was made with a napkin. It is taking me awhile but I am having fun working on this project.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sb5-DWK5s6g/X0Ly-g4Md1I/AAAAAAAACao/epbP5yEm8EMcS39Xb7c3jRSQ8Kj3VVaMgCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/napkin%2Bcollage.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Sb5-DWK5s6g/X0Ly-g4Md1I/AAAAAAAACao/epbP5yEm8EMcS39Xb7c3jRSQ8Kj3VVaMgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/napkin%2Bcollage.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8uDwepDFuQE/X0LzCijKcyI/AAAAAAAACas/WQppu_X6c2IL3WncqrX-zXloB7v0DXg3ACLcBGAsYHQ/s494/pocket%2B1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="448" data-original-width="494" height="363" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8uDwepDFuQE/X0LzCijKcyI/AAAAAAAACas/WQppu_X6c2IL3WncqrX-zXloB7v0DXg3ACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h363/pocket%2B1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CDhHb3cazdY/X0LzGu5_4WI/AAAAAAAACaw/8kFuHZZKyvsmnZGK0Ow1tRn4WXRM259hACLcBGAsYHQ/s559/pockets%2B2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="423" data-original-width="559" height="303" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CDhHb3cazdY/X0LzGu5_4WI/AAAAAAAACaw/8kFuHZZKyvsmnZGK0Ow1tRn4WXRM259hACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h303/pockets%2B2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZPml7mO_bnE/X0LzK5BnouI/AAAAAAAACa0/iSln5K65etU4rQt9V11kQYEc-96JYPoHQCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/pockets%2B3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZPml7mO_bnE/X0LzK5BnouI/AAAAAAAACa0/iSln5K65etU4rQt9V11kQYEc-96JYPoHQCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/pockets%2B3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2DQhbCtwPt8/X0LzObbVGsI/AAAAAAAACa8/vKofYFOphKc7fhyyCI1sjanMbsJlXw4oQCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/interior%2Bpockets.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2DQhbCtwPt8/X0LzObbVGsI/AAAAAAAACa8/vKofYFOphKc7fhyyCI1sjanMbsJlXw4oQCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/interior%2Bpockets.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-km9SiG8WMsQ/X0LzSUmxqRI/AAAAAAAACbE/WNEjNN3gUjEjeeyvlNolXgny9pZ-XtZUwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/Stencil%2Bpage%2B1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-km9SiG8WMsQ/X0LzSUmxqRI/AAAAAAAACbE/WNEjNN3gUjEjeeyvlNolXgny9pZ-XtZUwCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/Stencil%2Bpage%2B1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jbBvLvDOkUc/X0LzWsziTmI/AAAAAAAACbI/PXBWTRtv89wh6AOTMDpUtIgTuqSk1HmOgCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/stencil%2Bpage%2B3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jbBvLvDOkUc/X0LzWsziTmI/AAAAAAAACbI/PXBWTRtv89wh6AOTMDpUtIgTuqSk1HmOgCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/stencil%2Bpage%2B3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iCw32z5vQ4E/X0Lzk_ZrszI/AAAAAAAACbc/T7HlXcU9Mioc8cdLrWNYO8yXJz2IQnXxACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/collage%2Bpage%2B2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iCw32z5vQ4E/X0Lzk_ZrszI/AAAAAAAACbc/T7HlXcU9Mioc8cdLrWNYO8yXJz2IQnXxACLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/collage%2Bpage%2B2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Colleen C.http://www.blogger.com/profile/01276886413364911666noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6970220604384463955.post-20858759165665060932020-08-15T13:37:00.000-07:002020-08-15T13:37:34.945-07:00<h2 style="text-align: left;"> Making A Junk Journal</h2><p>I have always wanted to make a junk journal but was a little intimidated by the process. Lately I have been watching a lot of talented ladies on YouTube making junk journals and they are really inspiring. I decided to jump in and try making a journal. I started it a few weeks ago. I made the cover and back out of an old piece of embroidered linen that has been in my closet for ages. I had to put some lace on the back because the embroidered design did not reach all the way around. The inside of the journal is lined with a piece of wallpaper from a sample book. I love the design. That was the least intimidating part of this process so far. What to put in the journal and how to decorate pages is a little bit challenging. Listening to the fabulous artists who make these journals on YouTube, I am learning there is no right or wrong way to make a journal - the key is to just do it. Don't overthink it. That's what trips me up. I tend to overthink things. I hope I can get out of my own way and go nuts with the glue stick collaging things. I did manage to make one collage page and that is as far as I have gotten with the project.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X_esR5WHWwQ/XzhGrtXVBiI/AAAAAAAACZs/k46fT6UmTSgcSPH5pwdV2sNf5CUDUsIRwCLcBGAsYHQ/s518/Front%2Bof%2Bjournal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="392" data-original-width="518" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X_esR5WHWwQ/XzhGrtXVBiI/AAAAAAAACZs/k46fT6UmTSgcSPH5pwdV2sNf5CUDUsIRwCLcBGAsYHQ/s0/Front%2Bof%2Bjournal.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s0_AvV7aUhE/XzhGwa0oXlI/AAAAAAAACZw/j0QDpKCpCto5PARSaAu5TpaUb_-5f5t_ACLcBGAsYHQ/s482/Back%2Bof%2Bjournal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="449" data-original-width="482" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s0_AvV7aUhE/XzhGwa0oXlI/AAAAAAAACZw/j0QDpKCpCto5PARSaAu5TpaUb_-5f5t_ACLcBGAsYHQ/s0/Back%2Bof%2Bjournal.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vKpDSD0rcrg/XzhG03LR_8I/AAAAAAAACZ0/lBf5KfK89kIQRC1wdM6Zgwz9ye6KdjuKACLcBGAsYHQ/s632/Inside%2Bof%2Bjournal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="446" data-original-width="632" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vKpDSD0rcrg/XzhG03LR_8I/AAAAAAAACZ0/lBf5KfK89kIQRC1wdM6Zgwz9ye6KdjuKACLcBGAsYHQ/s0/Inside%2Bof%2Bjournal.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IkOqset1dbs/XzhG6tuzE8I/AAAAAAAACZ4/mOtFT8a_xwUzfKxqVM5g_pRCsGykpikrwCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/journal%2Bpage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IkOqset1dbs/XzhG6tuzE8I/AAAAAAAACZ4/mOtFT8a_xwUzfKxqVM5g_pRCsGykpikrwCLcBGAsYHQ/s0/journal%2Bpage.jpg" /></a></div><p><br /></p>Colleen C.http://www.blogger.com/profile/01276886413364911666noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6970220604384463955.post-21298178624998322292020-06-14T14:34:00.000-07:002020-06-14T14:36:29.828-07:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<h2>
Bagging It</h2>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am still playing with decorative napkins, adhering them with the cling wrap technique. These are two bags I made recently. I am not very good at tying nice looking bows so I used my bow-easy to make the bows on the front of each bag. I punched two holes in each bag and fed the seam binding through to the back. Then I had to figure out how to secure the seam binding without gluing it so the gift recipient could easily open the bag. I purchased some beads at Michael's in the kids section - I think they are called "pony" beads. I fed the two ends of the seam binding through the beads and that worked.</div>

Charming</h2>
I have been spending time making charms lately. They are so easy to make. I use charm blanks, pop in different crafty materials and top them with either an epoxy or glass cabochon. I purchased the charms and cabochons on Amazon.<br />

Tags and Charms</h2>
<div>
I just discovered a technique that has been around for awhile but is new to me and now I am hooked. The tags pictured below are all made using the paper napkin and cling wrap technique. I am now on the hunt for decorative paper napkins and Tuesday Morning seems to be a great source for them. The butterfly charms on two of the tags were made using butterfly nail art stickers and charm blanks with glass cabochons on top. I love how these turned out. Two of the tags have the caulk embellishments I started making four or five years ago. I also have a few card bases made using paper napkins and will be making cards with them soon.</div>

Here is the Mother's Day card I made and the card I made for my Dad's birthday.<br />

I used my Cricut Joy to make these. I really love using the pen feature which you can see on the interior of the Mother's Day card. I will be using it a lot more because my handwriting leaves a lot to be desired! I am finding that it takes me longer to make cards than it used to. I guess it is like anything else, the more you do it, the more proficient you get.Colleen C.http://www.blogger.com/profile/01276886413364911666noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6970220604384463955.post-43871688778834877182020-05-01T20:24:00.001-07:002020-05-01T20:24:53.782-07:00My dining room table = hot mess. Maybe when things return to a little bit of normalcy I will clean it up. I definitely will clean it up if my Mom comes over or really anyone. With the whole stay at home business I have thrown caution to the wind, spread out and just let creativity take over.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eF2QTgFvExU/Xqzlxc4ci-I/AAAAAAAACQk/EBXcWlRHoEcjOjS4RyhvNsKHmmfDNzYYgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_0177.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eF2QTgFvExU/Xqzlxc4ci-I/AAAAAAAACQk/EBXcWlRHoEcjOjS4RyhvNsKHmmfDNzYYgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_0177.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I did manage to make another card. It is pretty dimensional, but it is difficult for me to make a flat card. Card surfaces to me just feel like they need dimensional embellishment. That was not the case when I first started card making. Flat was good then. Maybe I need a twelve step program to get back to non-dimensionality (is that even a thing?). All I know is that I have to be just as creative to figure out how to mail a card like this. Usually, I just end up hand delivering dimensional cards :)<br />

Wow - 2014. Amazing to me that it has been six years since my last post. I guess the adage - life gets in the way is the best explanation for the time lapse. Now that many of us are sheltering in place because of the coronavirus, it kind of forces a slower pace. It seems that way to me anyway. It has been about three years since I have really been creative - again life getting in the way and all that. I did not realize how much I missed it until I started doing it again. Maybe Loretta - my grandmother - is giving me a little nudge from above to get back to me. Anyway, I finished a wood project and a birthday card. They were both made with the Cricut Joy. This little machine is great especially for crafters who don't have much space to spread out and create.<br />

So here are a few that I have made in the last three weeks with no supply list because I have forgotten what materials I used! I thought I would post them anyway and resolve to be better about posting the cards as I make them so I can provide a list of supplies used!<br />
<br />
Graduation - this is a graduation card I made for one of my nieces who graduated from high school recently. This card is inspired by a card designed by Michele Boyer featured in the Summer 2014 issue of <i>CardMaker</i> magazine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
Father's Day - This card is a card I made for my Dad for Father's Day:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
Another Graduation Card - Lastly, here is a card I made for a nephew who is graduating from High School (I made this card on my YouTube channel last week. You can view the video <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXHXYUmYJug&list=UUvCd8HhmGkWKcT6v3dR7pqQ">here</a>).</div>

I made the first card for my Dad's birthday. The paper I used for this card is called Hip, Hip Hooray by American Crafts. The pocket on the front was made using the My Favorite Things Vertical Gift Card Greetings die. The stars were made using a star punch and My Favorite Things Stacking Stars dies.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-52ITTZ6vmYk/U3PPY4f2G6I/AAAAAAAAA7E/ap_Q3rS19RY/s1600/DSC01257.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-52ITTZ6vmYk/U3PPY4f2G6I/AAAAAAAAA7E/ap_Q3rS19RY/s1600/DSC01257.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a>The Mother's Day Card was created with Aqua Mist card stock by Papertrey Ink for the card base. The white background design was cut using my Silhouette. I also cut out the word Mom on my Silhouette about 5 times and glued them one on top of the other so the word would look more substantial (like a chipboard accent). I placed pearls in the center of the flowers on the background.<br />

I enjoy creating cards from card sketches. It gives you a road map for putting together the card, but the freedom to select all the elements that make up the card (paper, stamps, embellishments, etc.). Here is the card I created from the sketch. You can see me putting together this card on my YouTube channel <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHA_2_zVv8E&list=UUvCd8HhmGkWKcT6v3dR7pqQ">here</a>.<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XBHO_xhZGZw/U1VszA7wttI/AAAAAAAAA4Y/1WwKjOwhzds/s1600/DSC01199.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XBHO_xhZGZw/U1VszA7wttI/AAAAAAAAA4Y/1WwKjOwhzds/s1600/DSC01199.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a>I recently purchased two of the EK Success Punch & Stamp sets from Blitsy.com. I have always liked the idea of stamping an image and having a coordinating punch that perfectly punches out that image. The EK Success Stamp & Punch sets each come with 7 stamps (rubber foam mounted stamps) and the coordinating punch. You will see photos of the punch and the stamps at left. I purchased the Retro Bottle Cap set and Just for You set. I have to say that I am not a fan of the rubber foam mounted stamps. Some of the stamps in the set stamp fairly well while others - especially the stamps with fine line type (you can see what I am talking about in the Gee Your Swell stamped image. The Swell stamps fine, but you can hardly see the "Gee Your" part of the sentiment). For the Gee Your Swell sentiment stamp, I masked off the Gee Your Swell by punching a 1.25 inch circle from an Avery Label Sheet, inked up the stamp, removed the Avery Label mask and stamped. I then stamped another sentiment from a photopolymer Avery Elle stamp set - much better! You will see this in a photo at left as well.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XMfDEhYUe8Q/U1VtArPwBPI/AAAAAAAAA4g/fQCT8w-Qtk8/s1600/DSC01210.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XMfDEhYUe8Q/U1VtArPwBPI/AAAAAAAAA4g/fQCT8w-Qtk8/s1600/DSC01210.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a>I will use these sets, but probably not as often as I might have if all the images stamped well. I think it would have been better if EK Success used clear photopolymer stamps in these sets instead of the rubber mounted on foam stamps. <br />

One is a birthday card I made for my brother and the other is a sympathy card. I made them several weeks back so I don't have a materials list for these two. Sorry about that!<br />

<br />
Last week I made a pet sympathy card for a family member who had to say goodbye to their four-legged friend. I wanted to send a sympathy card to let her know I was so sorry to hear the news and I was thinking of her. I have a <a href="https://www.papertreyink.com/stamps/with-sympathy-loss-of-a-pet-mini-stamp-set/">Pet Sympathy stamp set</a> by Papertrey Ink and a <a href="http://www.mftstamps.com/pet-charms-die-namics?filter_name=Pet%20Charms">Pet Charms</a> die set by My Favorite things that I used to make this card. I hope the card brought a little bit of comfort. I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a beloved pet and member of the family.<br />

Two family members are under the weather and I needed to make Get Well cards for them. I used my Silhouette to cut out the words Get Well and used the Offset feature to create a layered look. The papers chosen for the card are a little more muted to convey a more masculine feel (I can't remember the name of the patterned paper pad I used for this card. That's what I get for procrastinating on posting to my blog!) <div>
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQak4p_Gx6Q/UvpBwm6OjDI/AAAAAAAAA0w/-x3wQdwcmt4/s1600/DSC01048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQak4p_Gx6Q/UvpBwm6OjDI/AAAAAAAAA0w/-x3wQdwcmt4/s1600/DSC01048.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>

After making the Get Well cards, I turned my attention to making another Valentine card. This was a card I made on YouTube last Friday - <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44wOw283BC4&feature=c4-overview&list=UUvCd8HhmGkWKcT6v3dR7pqQ">here</a>.</div>

The creative challenge of making an embellishment instead of purchasing that embellishment at the store is really a fun exercise for me. Enamel dots are all the rage these days and they are fun to make and use. But dots just won't do for Valentine's Day! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hAjOrBJGyOA/Uuv6bJ6jXSI/AAAAAAAAAzY/Om-G7YdE2sM/s1600/DSC01029.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hAjOrBJGyOA/Uuv6bJ6jXSI/AAAAAAAAAzY/Om-G7YdE2sM/s1600/DSC01029.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">The Valentine's cards I am making are calling out for enamel hearts so..........I decided to make my own. I purchased </span><a href="http://www.joann.com/assorted-color-bling-heart-gems--78pc-pkg/12352308.html" style="text-align: center;">these</a><span style="text-align: center;"> assorted color bling hearts from Joann.com (they may sell these in the store, but I ordered mine online for $2.49 for a bag of 78 hearts in assorted sizes). Next I painted the hears with white paint. I did this to take away some of the translucency of the hearts. You can skip this step, but it may take you more coats of nail polish to give the hearts that enamel look. Next I stuck two flat-topped toothpicks in a piece of foam packaging and put a glue dot on top of each toothpick. I did this so I could affix the heart on top of the toothpick in preparation for painting them with nail polish. Next, I took out my collection of nail polish (most purchased at the Dollar Tree) and started painting the hearts. Most colors only took two coats to achieve the enamel look I was after. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5O-2CFM6sCk/Uuv6gozfnfI/AAAAAAAAAzk/yenEbvAk7h8/s1600/DSC01030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5O-2CFM6sCk/Uuv6gozfnfI/AAAAAAAAAzk/yenEbvAk7h8/s1600/DSC01030.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a><span style="text-align: center;">The next challenge in this project was to find stamps small enough to fit on the medium, medium large and large size hearts. I used my Papertrey Ink <a href="https://www.papertreyink.com/stamps/tiny-tags-stamp-set/">Tiny Tags</a> and <a href="https://www.papertreyink.com/stamps/tiny-tags-ii-stamp-set/">Tiny Tags II</a> to stamp on the hearts with StazOn ink. It is important to use a permanent ink that is formulated for slick surfaces - otherwise whatever you stamp on the hearts will wipe right off.</span></div>
<br />
That's it. Really fun and cute embellishments. <br />
<br />

It has been months since I last posted and my only excuse is that other things in life took priority. I am hoping to post more regularly on this blog - the goal is at least once per week. My intentions are good so we will see what happens.<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wlYkPc9wu8o/UuAaQS3vVrI/AAAAAAAAAyk/YNSPD5yz3vA/s1600/DSC01000.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wlYkPc9wu8o/UuAaQS3vVrI/AAAAAAAAAyk/YNSPD5yz3vA/s1600/DSC01000.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a><br />
Valentine's day is a few weeks away and so I have been busy making Valentine's cards. These are hands down my favorite type of card to make. It's probably because I love the colors often used on these cards - the pinks, the reds, and the aquas. <br />
<br />
The card featured on my blog today was made using the following materials:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KWBMkWnL8Hs/UuAagbHayTI/AAAAAAAAAy0/jPG1ndXOZws/s1600/DSC01001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KWBMkWnL8Hs/UuAagbHayTI/AAAAAAAAAy0/jPG1ndXOZws/s1600/DSC01001.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a><a href="http://www.simonsaysstamp.com/servlet/the-63543/s214-heart-rainfall-rain/Detail">SimonSaysStamp Heart Rainfall die</a><br />

<a href="http://www.simonsaysstamp.com/servlet/the-56877/Zig-glitter-clear-999/Detail">Wink of Stella glitter brush pen</a><br />
<br />
When I purchased the SimonSaysStamp Heart Rainfall die I knew I wanted to make this card. Don't some dies just speak to you like that? This one certainly did for me.<br />
<br />
I hope you like the card and thanks for visiting my long neglected blog!<br />

She is definitely not a day over 29 (again). I wanted to make her a special card for the occasion. She likes pink so I made sure to incorporate plenty of shades of pink on this card.<br />
<br />
I used the Pink Paislee London Market 6x6 paper pad (one of my favorite paper collections), some lace from Hobby Lobby, a pink grosgrain ribbon from Martha Stewart Crafts and die cut frame (I made this card about a month ago and cannot remember the die I used for that frame). I also used the Spellbinders Decorative Labels 8 die to cut Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush card stock to back the frame. I had to cut two of these frame backs and piece them together because one die cut was not wide enough to back the frame. I don't think it shows where I did that.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7kxkdovlkTc/Uj8QErxXd4I/AAAAAAAAAvI/18llJq7zMqc/s1600/DSC00792.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7kxkdovlkTc/Uj8QErxXd4I/AAAAAAAAAvI/18llJq7zMqc/s320/DSC00792.JPG" width="320" /></a>The card base is cut from a piece of Rustic Cream card stock by Papertrey Ink. The image in the frame is from a CD of ephemera that I purchased on ebay about 6 years ago. If you do a search on ebay you can still find CDs of ephemera. These images are such fun to print out and use on cards and projects.<br />
<br />
On the inside of the card I cut a Spellbinders Classic Rectangle out of Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush card stock and used the rest of the Spellbinders Decorative Labels 8 piece to give a decorative edge to the rectangle. I stamped a happy birthday sentiment and added a bling flourish to complete the card.<br />
<br />
The card measures 4.25 x 5.5 inches and is a side fold card.<br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XhjDvZwnJfk/UiTNvpJ3AtI/AAAAAAAAAts/pW2a8VljAKs/s1600/DSC00726.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XhjDvZwnJfk/UiTNvpJ3AtI/AAAAAAAAAts/pW2a8VljAKs/s320/DSC00726.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I recently purchased the Lifestyle Crafts Letterpress Starter Kit on clearance at Hobby Lobby. I have always been a fan of letterpress cards, but had never tried to craft my own. When I saw this kit on clearance, I decided to give it a go. <br />
<br />
The kit comes with black letterpress ink and a few letterpress plates so it does contain everything needed to get started. While I know I will use the black ink that comes in the kit, I did want to expand my color choices. One look at the price per tube - $6 on Amazon.com - had me rethinking that desire.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FXJP2nX0JGM/UiTN6bPuMCI/AAAAAAAAAt0/v0mLcmhyMuc/s1600/DSC00728.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FXJP2nX0JGM/UiTN6bPuMCI/AAAAAAAAAt0/v0mLcmhyMuc/s320/DSC00728.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Before I had even opened the starter kit box, I was back to Hobby Lobby to find some letterpress ink at a more affordable price. I found some Speedball Block Printing Ink. This is a thick, sticky ink that is very much like the ink used in letterpress. The price per tube is $6.99 but you get 2.5 ounces compared to One ounce of the Lifestyle Crafts Letterpress ink. You get a lot more for your money buying the Speedball ink and I used a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby that brought the price to just a little over $4 per tube. Much better. Then, I happened to be at Michael's picking up some resin and I browsed the clearance aisle and found 12 different colors of the Speedball ink for $2.48 each. But wait- it gets better - clearance items were an ADDITIONAL 50% off so I was able to buy each tube of ink for $1.24!!! Score!!!!!!<br />
<br />
Okay - so I also ran to Joann's this weekend and found seven of the Lifestyle Crafts Letterpress Plate kits for $2.97 each (one of the kits was $5.97). The cheapest I have been able to find them online was $15. I was so excited to find the plate kits at such a great price that I was almost jumping for joy in the store aisle.<br />
<br />
Now, onto the paper needed to letterpress. The kit came with several sheets of the letterpress paper which is a thick, soft paper. It is really a nice quality, but again, not cheap. I wanted to experiment with other papers I had on hand to see if they would letterpress well. I used a Canson Watercolor paper, the Lifestyle Crafts letterpress paper that came in the kit and a piece of Pure Poppy card stock by Papertrey Ink.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3FiaPSM_G_s/UiTO7YmsMMI/AAAAAAAAAt8/aI7ZABzkGmE/s1600/DSC00745.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3FiaPSM_G_s/UiTO7YmsMMI/AAAAAAAAAt8/aI7ZABzkGmE/s320/DSC00745.JPG" width="320" /></a>The best impression was achieved with the Lifestyle Crafts Letterpress paper (no surprise here). The Canson Watercolor Paper (purchased at Hobby Lobby some time ago) was a close second. I misted the Canson paper with water and let it dry a bit before letterpressing to soften it up a bit. I did like the results with this paper. The Papertrey Ink card stock did not letterpress as well. It looks nice but there is not very much de-bossing on this paper. I may need to add another shim and see how that works.<br />
<br />
The photo of the silver Christmas tree is letterpress with the Lifestyle crafts paper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sWtjad13Gmo/UiTPPaXuTqI/AAAAAAAAAuE/TISDWQWPGlY/s1600/DSC00740.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sWtjad13Gmo/UiTPPaXuTqI/AAAAAAAAAuE/TISDWQWPGlY/s320/DSC00740.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The damask design at left is letterpress with the Canson watercolor paper.<br />
<br />
I also included a photo of the Canson watercolor paper (on the left) and Lifestyle Crafts letterpress paper (on the right) side-by-side so you can compare. It is hard to get a sense of the quality in photos and I am planning to do a video on this soon.<br />
<br />
And lastly, below is a photo of letterpress on the Pure Poppy card stock from Papertrey Ink. <br />

This craft can be a little messy so make sure you have plenty of wet wipes on hand for clean up.<br />

I would much rather make a card with lots of frills, flowers, lace and other embellishments in a variety of soft pastel colors. That recipe obviously won't do for a masculine card.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a3uqyymKctI/UgkaU-OQhDI/AAAAAAAAAsw/dSBPjr-AzuE/s1600/DSC00687.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a3uqyymKctI/UgkaU-OQhDI/AAAAAAAAAsw/dSBPjr-AzuE/s200/DSC00687.JPG" width="200" /></a>I recently needed a masculine thank you card and thought about using one of the cork embellishments I cut a few weeks ago. I selected one of the cork tags for this card and stamped a border design on it using Saddle Brown Staz On ink. The Staz On ink stamps beautifully on the cork. Stars are usually my go to motif for masculine cards, but this time I decided to use some geometric stamps to decorate my card base. Not one star on this masculine card - yeah me for using something other than stars on a masculine card!<br />

This one slipped into a pocket on the front of the card. Cork was the next material on my list to add to projects and I set about looking for cork thin enough to die cut. A few weeks ago I was browsing at Hobby Lobby and found a huge roll of self adhesive cork. Eureka!!...PERFECT.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hL1zN4Pfmho/UfArL9z2DgI/AAAAAAAAAqk/FEaf5Q-nVJU/s1600/DSC00615.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hL1zN4Pfmho/UfArL9z2DgI/AAAAAAAAAqk/FEaf5Q-nVJU/s320/DSC00615.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
90 minutes and many cranks of the Sizzix Big Shot later I had a lovely pile of cork embellishments! Large tags, small tags, circles, ovals, rectangles, arrows, hearts, flourishes and on and on. I have not yet made a card using these embellishments, but will be doing so soon. Right now - I just like to look at all this cork goodness.<br />
<br />
When cutting out the cork shapes I also cut a corresponding shape in light weight chipboard and glued each of the cork embellishments to the chipboard to make them a little sturdier. Even though the cork was self adhesive, the adhesive was not strong enough to work in my humid climate. A little Scotch Quick Dry glue applied to the back of each of the cork shapes solved that problem.<br />
<br />
Aren't these cork embellishments fun?<br />

Anyone who makes holiday cards knows exactly what I am talking about. I don't tend to make cards in bulk - meaning I make two or three cards in the same or similar design and then move on to another design.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WgXpZ9kbnFM/UelvphvssFI/AAAAAAAAAqA/4LE1EkbDOkI/s1600/DSC00610.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WgXpZ9kbnFM/UelvphvssFI/AAAAAAAAAqA/4LE1EkbDOkI/s320/DSC00610.JPG" width="320" /></a>So let's see - it is July 18 and I have exactly two holiday cards made. I have quite a few more to make (I don't even want to verbalize the number because when I think about how many still need to be made I get a little panicky), but I usually have other projects in the works so holiday card making gets squeezed in between other projects at least until mid October. When October rolls around, I really ramp up production. At this point full blown panic usually sets in when I realize that cards need to be made and mailed in 6 or 7 weeks time. One way or another it all gets done and I enjoy making my own cards. At this point if I purchased a card to send/give to a friend or relative, they would be highly insulted becausethey enjoy receiving handmade cards from me.<br />

<br />
Here are the two cards that are completed. They are the same design - the only difference is that one of the trees has silver enamel dots on it and the other has burgundy enamel dots.<br />

<br /></h2>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b4dpyM_ntT0/UdmdbiZkKKI/AAAAAAAAAo0/88_QyKBD9OY/s1600/DSC00568.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="294" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-b4dpyM_ntT0/UdmdbiZkKKI/AAAAAAAAAo0/88_QyKBD9OY/s320/DSC00568.JPG" width="320" /></a>I am definitely not the type to join the the party on trends willy nilly, but I have to say I am late to the party on the chalkboard trend. It seemed to me that chalkboard embellishments were better suited to school themed layouts and teacher appreciation cards - neither of which I make. <br />
<br />
These embellishments also seemed at bit pricey ($3.99 or $4.99 for five chalkboard embellishments). Anyone who follows my YouTube channel (47CMC) and/or this blog knows that I like to make my own embellishments whenever possible. I decided to join the party on the chalkboard trend and attempt to make some of these chalkboard pieces to use on cards.<br />
<br />
After purchasing wood square and rectangle pieces at the craft store, I used some painter's masking tape to first paint a "wood frame" around the perimeter of the wood piece. After that was dry, I masked off the frame area and painted the center of the piece with black chalkboard paint. This is very easy, but takes a little while as you wait for the paint to dry.<br />
<br />
The photo above shows a few of the chalkboard pieces I made. I still need to touch these up with the brown paint to cover some of the chalkboard paint that seeped under the tape before I use them on a project. They are fun to make and pretty easy and if you go sparingly on the paint it will be less likely to seep under masked off areas.<br />
<br />
Here is a card I made using one of my handmade chalkboard embellishments.<br />
